Scoil Asicus Children author new book on Children's Ombudsman.
Seven children from Scoil Asicus Naofa are among the authors of a fabulous new book about the role of the Ombudsman for Children's Office.
Charlie, Evie, Jack, Liam, Luke, Rosie and Sachi came together with other children from around Sligo and a team of artists and authors (Andy, Mary and Sarah) to create the beautiful book which focussed on the Ombudsman's role in promoting the 42 Rights of the Child as described in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Over several weeks, the group met to discuss children's rights and reflect these through artwork. They working with Andy drawing, painting, sculpting and making models of the Ombusdman's office. Mary and Sarah asked the group what Rights they felt were the most important and prepared questions for the current Ombudsman Niall Muldoon which he answered in a video.
The children's final task was to design the book by putting the pictures and text together into a bright, attractive book which is printed in English agus as Gaeilge.
We are very proud of these children's work, their knowledge of Children's Rights and their creativity. The children launched "The Keeper of Rights" in our school at morning assembly on 7th November. See the News Today report in the video below!
